MUSIC

Music is vital at Mt. Zion. It has the ability to proclaim the Gospel, strengthen us in our faith, enhance the spiritual life of our worshippers, and reach out to those in our local community.

CONGREGATIONAL SONG

At the heart of our music making is congregational song. Through hymns, liturgy, and Psalm singing, we offer praise, prayers, and proclamation.

INSTRUMENTS

The organ and piano are the primary instruments that accompany worship music. Guitar, ukulele, brass, woodwinds, and strings also enhance our musical life throughout the year.

CANTORS

These singers are trained to lead the choir and congregation in Psalm singing and liturgy. Their voices encourage the congregation to be active participants in the church’s song.

ADULT CHOIR

The primary goal of the Adult Choir is to lead congregational singing. In addition the choir offers anthems, hymn arrangements, calls to worship, and other special music. They regularly participate in special projects in the community including choral workshops and joint choir events. Their singing season begins in September and runs through Holy Trinity Sunday, which is in May or June. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the choir room.

INTERGENERATIONAL SUMMER CHOIR

Summer Choir meets one Sunday a month in June, July, and August. Singers gather in the balcony at 9:30 AM to prepare music for the 10:30 AM worship service. All ages are invited to participate.

JOYFUL RINGERS

Mt. Zion's handbell choir, The Joyful Ringers, enhances worship with bells and chimes. Their music includes hymn arrangements, original sacred compositions, and festive processionals. They participate in retreats and clinics on a regular basis. Their ringing season is from September to May. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM in the balcony.
