Part-time Assist
ing Pastor, Mt. Zion

Pastor Shoffner joined the Mt. Zion staff as part-time assisting pastor on March 1, 2012. He is also
part-time Communications Coordinator for the NC Lutheran Synod-ELCA.
In February 2011, Pr.
Shoffner retired after 37 years of active ordained ministry, the last 20 years of which he was Senior
Pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran
Church in Hickory. His first three ministries were as assistant pastor at
Holy Trinity (1974-78), assistant to NC Synod LCA president Rev. Dr. Ernest Misenheimer (1978-82),
and as assistant to president, Rev. Dr. H. George Anderson at Luther College, Decorah, IA
(1982-91). Pr. Shoffner is a 1967 graduate of UNC-CH, a Returned Peace Corps
member (Malawi,
1967-69), and a 1974 graduate of Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary
in Columbia, SC. He is
married to Beth Shoffner, librarian/media specialist at Oakwood Elementary School. They have two
adult daughters, Adrienne and Lauren.
Organist and Administrative Assistant

A native of Hickory, North Carolina, Timothy Warren was appointed organist at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in
Conover, North Carolina in July, 1978. At Mt. Zion, Mr. Warren accompanies the choir, as well as plays for all
worship services, funerals and weddings. He is also Office Administrator at the Church. He served as organist for
The First Baptist Church in Hickory for three years prior to his appointment at Mt. Zion.

Mr. Warren studied piano at Lenoir-Rhyne University with the late Helen Stahler and received his organ
instruction at Lenoir-Rhyne under Mr. Larry Lowder. He served for eight years as rehearsal accompanist/organist
for the University Choir, under the direction of his colleague at Mt. Zion, Mr. E. Ray McNeely, who served as
Chairman of the Music Department at Lenoir-Rhyne for many years.

Mr. Warren is a member of the Charlotte Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He was rehearsal
accompanist/organist for the Catawba Valley Community Chorus for about 15 years. He accompanied the local
“Messiah” sing-in for many years and was also accompanist for the Hickory Choral Society during its early years.
He currently serves as accompanist for Arndt Middle School choruses. Mr. Warren has had the opportunity to play
many fine organs in the eastern part of the United States, two of which include our nation’s “Washington National
Cathedral” and the “Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.” The National Cathedral is blessed with
a four-manual 189-rank Aeolian-Skinner organ and the Basilica houses two large Moller organs (gallery and
chancel) with matching five-manual consoles.
Senior Pastor

Pastor Bollinger joined the Mt. Zion staff as senior pastor on May 1, 2012. Before that he was the
senior interim pastor for 18 months, and part-time interim associate pastor for two years. Prior to
coming to Mt. Zion, Pastor Scott was pastor o
f St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC (1998-
2007), and Beth Eden Lutheran Church
in Newton, NC (1993-1998). Pastor Scott is a graduate of
Appalachian State University
in Boone, NC (1980), and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in
Columbia, SC (1993). He is married to Cynda Bollinger, an insurance agent for Catawba Valley
Insurance Agency in Hickory, NC. They have a son, Riley, and daughter, Grace.
